Creating, Canceling or Editing a Work Order

The system allows two methods of creating or editing Work Orders and attaching them to the Project.

The first method should only be used for large Projects. In this method, data entry clerks who do not have Project authorization create Work Orders using the normal Work Order System. These Work Orders can then be attached to the Project at the Project Manager's convenience. The possible problem with this approach is that data can be entered incorrectly. For example, the Work Order cannot be attached if it is written against a Cost Center other than the Project's Cost Center.

In the second method, all functions are done by branching to the Work Order System from the Project Control screen. This is the recommended method as it allows all necessary data to be transferred automatically from the Project to the Work Order when it is created. This eliminates any possibility of input error.

To edit a Work Order, simply place the cursor on a Work Order Number, click on Options and the click on Edit or Create Work Order.

To create a Work Order, enter a W in the CD field and press Enter. The cursor should now be in a blank Ref# field. Click on Options and then click on Edit or Create Work Order. A new Work Order will be initiated with most of the data already entered.

Calculating Project Dates

Click on Re-calculate Dates to manually recalculate all Start and End Dates in the Project matrix.

Description - The Description field defaults to the Work Order's or imbedded Project's Description and can be changed to a description that is more related to the Project context.

Three display only fields follow:  Status, Est. Start Date and Slack Days.

The Est. Start Date is always set to the Project Start Date for those Work Orders or Projects that have no predecessor(s). The Est. Start Date for Work Orders or Projects with predecessors is calculated once all of their predecessors have a  Duration.
