First things First

Set the system Software Switches first to decide how things are processed before running MAPCON. Not all switches have to be set immediately, and most can be changed at a later date. However, it is best to start on the right track in the beginning for a successful implementation.

Also, create security codes in the system to define which areas users can access and block out the administrative areas. See the section on Security for more details.

Start a Plan

Starting an implementation plan can be easier than you might imagine.

SETUP - Start by creating yourself in the system. Setup your co-workers as time allows or as they are needed in MAPCON. Remember that  Security is optional and can be added later at any time. Setup also includes following the instructions in this implementation manual to set Software Switches.

INPUT - Determine what you want to start tracking first - equipment or  locations or cost centers, then follow the steps in this manual to input data. Review the Data Entry Guide for some helpful tips.

TECH TIP:

You do not need to have everything running overnight, nor should you expect to. Taking the time to enter quality data now will prevent many  headaches down the line, and will ultimately save you time in the future. However, if the data entry is rushed and not setup correctly, users will struggle trying to find data, and nobody wants to use a system that frustrates them.

PROCESS - Next, create a work order and follow the process all the way  through from creation to completion, both within Mapcon and in your  facility. Get everyone involved that needs to be and make sure they all  understand what is expected of them at each step of the way.

SCHEDULE - Once you have a game plan in place that everyone understands and agrees to, come up with a time frame to achieve certain  objectives. For example, set a date that will be a goal to have everything in a given area input by then. Set another date for having the process flowing  smoothly.

MEASURE - After things have been running for awhile, run reports to  check on your progress. Each company will have different measuring sticks  based on what they are tracking in MAPCON. Common progress reports include Planned vs. Unplanned Work, the Cost of Labor and Materials, and Equipment Downtime.

REPEAT - Go through these steps again and apply what you have learned to the next phase. Start with critical information, than expand as time and resources allow. Remember not everything can be input at once, nor should you expect to.
