ROUTES

Overview

Routes are generated by the Preventive Maintenance system. A Route is a list of stops where the same maintenance function will be performed. Equipment, Locations and Cost Centers can be inter-mixed on a Route. A common use of Routes is a Lubrication Route where several pieces of Equipment must be lubricated on a scheduled basis. Another example is an Inspection route. If using Zones within Mapcon, a Route cannot cross Zones, so setup a seperate route within each zone.

The advantage to using Routes is that only one Work Order is generated with a list of "stops" on the route, instead of, for example, 100 work orders being generated to do the same function, like check all fire extinguisher levels. Optionally, a scanned Drawing, or "blue print" of the route can be printed with the generated work order to show where each stop (extinguisher) is on the route.

The steps to create a Route are as follows:

Set up the Route - Add the desired Equipment, Locations and Cost Centers to the Route's list in the order in which they will be serviced.

Create a PM Description for the maintenance function that will be performed at each Stop. Include Labor and Materials planning on the PM Description.

Costs will be distributed evenly to all Stops on the Route. Use the Options button on the Route Data Entry window and choose Cost Hist to view yearly accumlated costs (including Labor, Material, direct charges (purchases), or Service Contracts) for each route.

Parts identified in the Equipment Record for the PM Description are a special case. They will be charged to the Stop. The total costs charged to a Stop will be the Stop's apportioned share of the Labor and Materials specified on the PM Description plus, in the case of Equipment, the cost of parts specifically identified in the Equipment record.

WARNING: Stock assigned to the PM Procedure in the Equipment record has a different effect than it does on PM Work Orders that are not attached to Routes. For non-Route Work Orders, if the same part is specified in the PM Description and in the Equipment record, quantities assigned in the Equipment record will override quantities on the PM Description. For Route Work Orders, the quantities will be added.

Create a PM Frequency for the Route Number and PM Description. 52 Week and Time Interval frequency methods are the only methods that can be used for a Route.

Generate a PM Work Order - A Route PM Work Order will be created by the PM Generation process in accordance with the PM Frequency assigned to the Route. It can also be generated using the selective PM Work Order generation option. A Route Work Order MUST be created by PM Generation. A Repair Work Order cannot be initiated against a Route.
