Follow the Plan

Following your implementation plan can also be easy.

Example - Tracking Inventory

Now that you have some equipment and personnel setup and have been  generating work orders for awhile, you decide it is time to start tracking  inventory parts on your work orders.

SETUP - Start by creating stockroom personnel in MAPCON. Give them  authority to Issue and Return. Create one or two Stockrooms. Create  Aisles for those stockrooms. Set Software Switches, for instance to  determine if work orders are put on Hold if not all parts are available to be  issued.

INPUT - Enter parts and "seed" them into a stockroom so they can be  issued to a work order. Part information should include Vendor- Manufacture part numbers for cross-referencing, Aisle-Shelf-Bin locations,  and optionally setting Minimum and Maximum stocking quantities for  automatic reordering.

Note: It is encouraged to adjust the reorder points over time as part of  Continuous Improvement. The goal is to never run out, but also to  not have lots of money tied-up in parts that never get used.

PROCESS - Plan parts on the Work Order Planning screen, or include  parts on PM Descriptions. The Issue ticket number will show on the Work  Order Completion screen and can be processed directly from there.

SCHEDULE - Come up with a deadline to have critical parts setup in the  system. Or setup your stockroom aisle by aisle, shelf by shelf, and plan on  doing one a week.

MEASURE - After things have been running for awhile, run reports to  check on your progress. Common inventory reports include Quantity Used  This Month or Slow Moving Items, to name just a few.

REPEAT - Go through these steps again and apply what you have learned  to the next phase.
