Tracking Equipment
Note: This guide assumes that Equipment is the primary maintained entity.
If not writing work orders against equipment, this section can be skipped.
Equipment Keywords, Numbering, and Hierarchical Structure need to be determined first.
After defining these, you will then have the basic structure in place to enter specific information for equipment records.
Not every piece of equipment needs to be entered before writing work orders.
MAPCON allows you to "Build as you Go, Use as you Build".
Equipment Keywords
Keywords are a way of organizing like pieces of equipment together.
Keywords should be setup in a logical fashion.
Use general terms first, then more specific.
For example:
Good Keyword Examples Bad Keyword Examples
PUMP-CONDENSOR CONDENSOR PUMP
PUMP-CHILLED WATER CHILLED WATER PUMP
MOTOR-AC A/C MOTOR
MOTOR-DC D/C MOTOR
CONVEYOR-ROLLER ROLLER CONVEYOR
CONVEYOR-BELT BELT DRIVE CONVEYOR
CONVEYOR-COOL COOLING CONVEYOR
Using the good examples above, all Pumps, Motors, and Conveyors will appear together in Lookups and on Reports sorted by Keyword.
When Keywords are properly setup, locating information is quick and easy for users, so take the time to ensure they are entered consistently.
