Centralia City Light produces electricity for the city of Centralia, located in Washington state about half-way between Portland and Seattle. They recently installed MAPCON Professional, the premier maintenance management software, to help them keep the equipment running so customers don't lose power due to repairs.

Not surprisingly, their biggest concern is the huge trees that grow in the Pacific Northwest. Heavy winds can knock them over, and power lines get taken down. Although they can't do anything about mother nature, they can ensure their huge generators remain operational and MAPCON Pro preventive maintenance software will help them do that.

The generators are located at the Yelm Hydro Plant about 45 miles from Centralia. The Nisqually river supplies the power via a 9-mile canal, and their dam and gate system help harness nature's energy. With over 3,000 street lights to maintain, it's a big job to monitor the generation of electricity, transmission lines, and the distribution system. Built in 1929, the power plant can currently generate 12 megawatts of power.

They didn't have a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) in place before MAPCON Pro. In fact, there were no formal equipment numbers identifying the equipment. With the help of MAPCON Technologies' implementation specialist, they developed a numbering schema for the equipment and have already started creating preventive maintenance (PM) procedures. They are well on their way to being able to track the repair history on the equipment.

Woodward Resource Center, in Woodward, IA, recently implemented MAPCON Computerized Maintenance Management Software to help track the maintenance of all the buildings on their expansive 600 acre campus. MAPCON will not only be utilized by the Maintenance Shop, but Housekeeping will also be tracking their inventory levels in the equipment maintenance software to prevent supplies from running out. Woodward's IT department will be tracking their numerous computers and monitors with MAPCON's Maintenance Software and Transportation will be keeping the state owned vehicles in good repair. Even the furniture will now have a history in MAPCON as it goes from its starting location to the repair shop and back out into service again.

Woodward's goal is to go paperless. They will use iMapcon, the Internet maintenance management module, for Resident Assistants to submit electronic work requests for their customers when things need repairing. No more lost pieces of paper. Maintenance workers will begin using PocketMAINT for mobility so they can track their work as they move from building to building and close work orders upon completion of the job. Bar coded inventory parts will speed up their repair time as they quickly check them out from any of several stockrooms around campus.

With 49 electrical panels and over 400 fire bottles to keep track of, the Woodward maintenance staff will be much more efficient with MAPCON's maintenance software.

ARCH I. MADDEN
April 26, 1924 - July 9, 2009

Arch I. Madden, long time Des Moines resident and businessman. He was previously owner operator of multiple Des Moines businesses to include McDonald's Restaurants, Camelot Cleaners, VEGAS Corporation and Mapcon. Arch died in Omaha, Nebraska at his daughter's home.

Born in Des Moines to parents, Arch I. Madden, Sr. and Mabel Moss Madden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Bolms Madden; daughter, Sandra Madden; brother, Robert Madden; and sister, Mary Madden Spencer. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Madden Resch of San Jose, CA; his children, Vicki Madden Marquart and her husband Gerald of Omaha, NE, and Gary Madden and his wife Cieli of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren, Adam and Tracy Marquart, April Warford, Jason and Marcia Madden, Chad Marquart, Joshua Madden and Ryan Marquart; and his great-grandchildren, Paris, Graycen, Brenna, Autumn, Cameron, Zander and Trevan.

In the giving spirit that was Arch's character, he had donated his body for research to the University of Iowa. The family asks that you honor Arch's memory by "paying it forward" to help another individual as Arch often did in his lifetime. A memorial service will be held to honor him on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel.

Superior Ethanol, under the umbrella of GPRE (Green Plains Renewable Energy) is using MAPCON Professional CMMS Software. The product they purchased is the Ethanol version of MAPCON Professional. The software comes pre-loaded with PM procedures, spare parts and keywords that are focused around the machinery used in that industry.

After setup Superior Ethanol will be reviewing PM procedures and approving them before they are in use, ensuring the maintenance schedule is accurate. They will also be taking advantage of the accounting interface to send inventory transactions and invoice reconciliation data from MAPCON Professional (maintenance software) to their accounting software to validate that both systems report the same value of inventory on the shelf.

After having used MAPCON maintenance software years earlier they had switched to another maintenance management system. Wisconsin Industrial Sand (WIS) is a division of Fairmount Minerals. WIS mines industrial sand primarily used in the oil and gas industry. Through their state of the art processes their quality and consistency are the reasons industrial companies depend on them.
