Equipment Numbering

Many volumes have been written on establishing Equipment numbering schemes. Some of these methods include:

            Allow MAPCON to generate the next available generic number
(most common method)

            Use Manufacturer's number

            Follow established Industry Standard numbering system

            Develop your very own alpha-numeric numbering sequence

Although work intensive to initially setup, one of the best methods is to use an "intelligent" numbering system.

For example, the first few numbers may represent the specific processing line, the next few may indicate a department, and the last few numbers are the equipment number itself.

All methods work well for different situations, so choose an  appropriate one for your facility.
