Security Codes

Using a Security Code of three letters and a number (ABC#), a hierarchy of security levels can be established. An Administrator defines these codes within MAPCON.

The three letters represent which category the user belongs in. Any three-letter combination can be used.

The number represents how high of a level within that category.

(The number is on a scale from 0 to 9 with 9 being the  highest level.)

Security Code Examples:

            INV5     = Inventory, level 5

            EQP7   = Equipment, level 7

            MNT2   = Maintenance, level 2

            PUR8   = Purchasing, level 8

            SYS9   = System administrator, level 9 (Highest security code in system)

            Good Examples                      Bad Examples

            SYS9                                       sys9                            no lower-case letters

            EQP5                                       5EQP                           letters first, then number

            INV1                                         INV11                           no numbers higher than 9

            MNT0                                       mntO                            no lower-case; and not letter O

The only pre-defined security code is the SYS code (System  Administrator). SYS is a global code that covers all other letter  combinations. A SYS9 has security access to everything in the system.  However, a SYS5 only has access to areas with a level 5 or lower number.  For example, a SYS5 User cannot see options that have a EQP7 or SYS9  security rating, but will be able to access EQP5 or INV4 or MNT2 areas.

NOTE: SECURITY IS OPTIONAL AND CAN BE ADDED AT ANY TIME.
