The following is the online version of the MAPCON Lite User Manual for the software version indicated in the Table of Contents. The Manual provides a detailed description for the users of our Maintenance Software and Preventive Maintenance Software operations and methodology. Security Categories

Security Categories are 3 character alphanumeric codes.  The Security Category and Security Level are referred to in combination as Security Codes.  Security Codes are used by the User Group, User Profile, Component Security and Process Security screens.  The table created by this screen is a validation table.  In order to prevent data entry errors, all other screens use Lookups that refer to this table.  Therefore, Security Categories must be entered here before other screens can use them.

The Security Category screen contains two panels.  The initial panel allows the following choices:

Insert

Click on the Insert Button and a panel containing the following fields will be displayed:

Category - Enter the name of the new Security Category.  The name must have 3 characters.  This is a required field and embedded blanks are not allowed.

Description - Enter a brief description of the Category.

Category data entry can be done in "Heads Up" data entry mode.  When the cursor enters the Category Box, the database is placed in Insert Mode.  Enter the Category and Description.

You may click on the Cancel Button to cancel the Insert.  If you press the Enter or Tab Key, the record will be automatically posted.  Click on the Done Button to return to the Main Form.

Edit

Select a Security Category by clicking on it and click on the Edit Button.  A panel similar to the Insert Panel will appear.  Follow the instructions for the Insert Panel.  You will not be able to edit the Category.

Delete

Select a Security Category by clicking on it and click on the Delete Button.  The selected Security Category will be deleted.

Done

Click on the Done Button when you are finished inserting or editing Security Categories.

User Groups

The purpose of a User Group is to eliminate the necessity of entering Security Codes (Security Categories and Security Levels  for every User.  This can become a painstaking task if there are a large number of Users.  To solve this problem, create a User Group and assign Security Codes to the Group.  When a User's Name is added to the Group, the User will automatically be given the Security Codes of the User Group.

The User Group screen contains two panels.  The initial panel allows the following choices:

Insert

Click on the Insert Button and a panel containing the following fields will be displayed:  

User Group ID - Enter the name of the new User Group.  The name can have up to 15 characters.  This is a required field and embedded blanks are not allowed.  Once data has been entered in this field, you will be able to insert, edit and delete Security Codes for the User Group.

Description - Enter a brief description of the User Group.

Perform the following instructions to insert, edit or delete Security Codes:

Insert

Click on the Insert Button in the Security Codes sub-panel.  A small panel will pop up. Use the Lookups to select a Security Category and Security Level. Then, click on the Done Button.  A User Group will probably have multiple Security Codes.  Repeat this process as many times as desired.

Edit

Select an existing Security Code by clicking on it.  Then, click on the Edit Button. A small panel will pop up. Use the Lookups to select a Security Level. Then, click on the Done Button.

Delete

Select an existing Security Code by clicking on it.  Then, click on the Delete Button.  The selected Security Code will be deleted.

Click on the Post Button when you are finished inserting or editing Security Codes for the User Group.

Edit

Select a User Group by clicking on it and click on the Edit Button.  A panel similar to the Insert Panel will appear.  Follow the instructions for the Insert Panel.  You will not be able to edit the User Group ID.

Delete

Select a User Group by clicking on it and click on the Delete Button.  The selected User Group will be deleted.  The User Group can not be deleted if there are User Names assigned to it.

Members

Select a User Group by clicking on it and click on the Members Button.  A list of the Members of the User Group will be displayed.  Click on Close to close the list.

Done

Click on the Done Button when you are finished inserting or editing User Groups.
