Fighting Irish Tackle Their Maintenance Program

The University of Notre Dame is one of the nation"s most prestigious Catholic universities located north of the city of South Bend, Indiana. Established back in 1842, the "Fighting Irish" are very well known for their sports programs, especially their football team which has 11 national championships and 7 Heisman Trophy winners.

The Notre Dame power plant has recently started using MAPCON On-Demand, our web-based maintenance software package, to track the PM work on their steam traps and valves. Literally hundreds of valves need constant monitoring to ensure there are no cracks that can cause major problems down the road.

They have also been working diligently on pulling together a list of spare parts that will be imported in the system from an Excel spreadsheet, even hiring temporary help to assist in the data collection. Already over 300 vendors have been imported, complete with contact names and addresses.

Getting a handle on their spare parts is a high priority, and they are well on their way to becoming more efficient in that regard. The parts list will turn into a Bill of Material list for the equipment so they know exactly where everything goes.

Joseph Herman, Notre Dame Maintenance Manager, was able to attend our MUG conference this year, and he brought along his lovely wife Nancy. They both had a great time, and we hope to see them again next year.
