Xcel Energy using MAPCON Work Order Software

Xcel Energy is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has several divisions. The power plant to generate energy for consumers is the most widely known. The Liquid Natural Gas plant has been using MAPCON Work Order software since 2002. They track Work Requests from Operators and have PM procedures to follow.

Recently, they have a goal for the Operators to use the Work Order Software to start the work flow process instead of using requests. The biggest advantage is that the Work Order will validate the equipment number that is entered, reducing the possibility of incorrect numbers being used. Also, by eliminating the request-to-order transfer process, managers can simply review the submitted order and just click Approve and the work order is ready to go. This is a much more efficient process from start to finish.

One of the enhancements was to make the Work Order software window easier to use. By placing security codes on many of the fields which are not being used, they are hidden from view for the Operators. This simplified form is easier to fill in, and the clutter is eliminated. This is an easy process that can be applied to any MAPCON Work Order Software data entry window for better usability and faster data entry.
