Robert Wayne Steinberger, 82, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2014.

Bob Steinberger was the Vice president of the MAPCON Division of DFM Systems until 2000. Bob led the acquisition of the MAPCON Division from DFM and took over the reins as President when MAPCON became employee owned in April of 2000. Bob was one of the primary architects of MAPCON and is responsible for most of what MAPCON has become. He retired in 2003 but continued to develop the MAPCON Lite product and to serve as Board President until 2010.

Bob was born April 17, 1932 in Urbana, Ohio.  The Steinberger family settled and established the family farm in Urbana way back in 1815. He was a brilliant, witty and playful person who wrote poetry, loved and wrote music and conducted his own dance band.  Bob college education included Denison University in Granville, Ohio, Ohio State University in Columbus  and Oklahoma State University Stillwater. As a United States Air Force officer in the USAF from 1953 to 1966, he served as a B-52 instructor, navigator and engineer participating in the final hydrogen bomb tests at Easter Island in the Pacific in 1962.

In 1966, Bob resigned his commission to become an entrepreneur.  He started and grew numerous computer software companies until his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Boggs of Williamsburg, Virginia; son, Matthew Steinberger and wife Tanya, (Sprague) of Soldotna, Alaska and son, Jim Steinberger and wife Wanita, (Heckman), parents of Bob"s four grandchildren, Justin Steinberger, Christina Steinberger, Melinda Steinberger and Trevor Steinberger all of Waukee, Iowa. The three sons of Ellen Steinberger from a previous marriage, Gary Kephart, Robert Kephart and Michael Bodensteiner all of Des Moines, as well as their children, Bryant, Brandon, Brittany and Mia.
